Meeting Minutes

Long Yang-Chicago Minutes, 15 Feb 2024

The fourth meeting of LYC-Chicago was held Sat 15 Feb 2024 at Jockey Wok and Roll restaurant in Hoffman Estates, IL.

1. Get acquainted.  Six people attended including Caucasian, Korean, and Vietnamese guys.  They represent a wide variety of backgrounds and skills.  Several people phoned to say that they had schedule or weather conflicts, and that they would be at a future event.

NOTE: People who have expressed an interest in helping to form the chapter are considered "the Organizing Committee".  As discussed in item 6 below, the Organizing Committee is an informal group of volunteers.  To participate, simply volunteer!

2. Minutes.  The minutes are presented here for your review. Please send any corrections to chicago@longyangclub.org.  The minutes will be reviewed and approved at the next meeting.

3. Mission statement.  The mission statement of LYC-Chicago will be developed as part of the bylaws, in accordance with the guidance provided by Long Yang Club-International (LYC-I).

4. Bylaws.  Sample bylaws provided by LYC-I were reviewed and revised.  They will be reviewed and approved at an upcoming meeting.  Please read the draft bylaws, and send any comments to chicago@longyangclub.org.

5. Determine if there should be any dues, and if so, the amount.  Members present agreed that this should be the subject of a future membership poll.  It was noted that $187 had been expended from one member's personal funds, for publicity purposes, over the last several months.  The Organizing Committee would like to reimburse this volunteer from donations at upcoming events.

6. Select interim officers.  The members present felt that selecting officers at this time would be premature.  Rather, they decided to organize several events and solicit additional participation, with elections to be held later in the year.  One participant indicated his desire to become a Board member.  Many of the others were simply interested in helping LYC-Chicago get started, and in socializing.

7. Determine what content we would like on the Internet, and what advertising we would do to help launch LYC-Chicago.  The group decided to use phone calls and e-mail to spread the word, and use polls for ideas and direction.  Ideas for an online poll were noted (please see below).

8. Select locations and dates for next several business meetings.  To be held in conjunction with social events, and kept as brief as possible.

9. Select locations and dates for next several social events.  A restaurant and date in March was selected for the next event, however a conflict became apparent after the meeting and the event was not scheduled.  After making several phone calls and working around some people's schedules, we are happy to announce that the next social event will be at:

New Pot Thai Restaurant
727 Lake Street
Oak Park, IL 60302
+1 (708) 383-1625

Join us for dinner at 6 PM on Saturday 03 May 2024

New Pot is located one block east of Oak Park CTA Green Line Train station, just east of Oak Park Avenue.  By car, from city or suburbs, take the Eisenhower Expressway to Oak Park.  Exit Harlem Avenue (Route 43) North.  Go about 0.9 miles until you pass under the railroad tracks, then turn right onto Lake Street and proceed several blocks to 727.

This will be a social event and we will select the next several social events!  Where would you like to meet next, and what would you like to do?  Tell us...

10. Other business & adjournment

bulletThe group decided that a free flow of information was important, and that posts to the Yahoo! group should be not be moderated.  Membership should be limited to accepted members, and they must have have reached the "age of consent" (i.e. adults) as stated in their Yahoo! profile.  It was noted that the current owner of the group needed to be contacted to ensure a smooth transition and that several attempts had not been successful.
bulletThe following ideas were discussed for a membership poll:
- What social events are you interested in? Go to a park, movies, shopping, casinos, bus trips, bike rides, hiking, camping, restaurants (type), clubs (type), etc.
- How frequently would you like to meet?
- What types of food do you like?
- Where are you located?
- Where would you like the events to be held?
- What membership fee would you pay? Annually? Each event?
- What other ideas do you have? What can LYC-Chicago do for you?
bulletThe meeting was adjourned and followed by dinner which included lively discussions on several topics.
