Welcome to a brief introduction to Long Yang Canberra
Long Yang is an informal social group of gay men where Asian and Caucasians can meet. As the song goes, "we are one, but we are many!" The name 'Long Yang' comes from the classic Chinese novel, 'A Dream of Red Mansions'. Long Yang Jun was a minister and favourite of Wei Wang, the Prince of Wei.
Long Yang is a non-religious, obligation-free friendship group for Caucasian and Asian men who just want to socialise together. We have sister organisations in many parts of the world with which we maintain strong relations and communication channels.
We are especially concerned in helping Asian guys make contact with others in a friendly, non-threatening atmosphere and in offering support to them.
We are a group of private, individual gay guys who have faced the same isolation and concerns as many others. For many men, accepting their sexuality can be a long and difficult process, instead of fun and discovery. While they may achieve the ultimate goal of meeting other men, the way there often seems daunting. Gay clubs may appear obsessed with public activists and visibility. Gay venues may seem too overt and unfriendly, and confront the novice with fear of recognition.
The issues of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) also worry many guys. Actually, none of these need be feared with the provision of proper education and action.
That is why we offer you this free, no-hassle opportunity to have a confidential chat, say over drinks or dinner, or just over the phone, and perhaps later to meet settled Asian and Caucasian couples, to learn more about our lifestyles.
We can introduce you to the various services available in the gay community. We do not offer counselling, medical advice, monetary service or religious views.
We do offer you the opportunity to meet us and learn a little more about your options. The rest is up to you, so what do you have to lose. Help us to help you.
Currently, the group meets monthly for social evenings, as detailed in a newsletter that is produced each month.
