SOME
INITIAL QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE
STARTING A GROUP
To
gauge the chances of success in starting a new LYC
group, please ask yourself the following questions:
1.
Do I have any experience of organising groups of
people?
2.
Am I prepared for the amount of dedication and work
involved?
3.
Am I good at talking to people that I do not know very
well?
4.
Do I have any previous experience of being a member of
an LYC chapter?
5.
Do I have a good number of gay friends?
6.
Are there a reasonable number of gay Asians and
interested non-Asians in my town/city?
7.
If there is already a gay Asian group in my town/city,
is there room for another one?
8.
Do I know some people who would be prepared to help me
start an LYC chapter?
9.
Do I really need any Asians to start an LYC Chapter? (It
would be nice but maybe not essential initially. Maybe
they will start to take interest when the Chapter has
been formed and you have something to offer them.)
You
do NOT have to say 'Yes' to every of those questions
above, but the more 'Yes' answers there are, the better
your chance of success!
WILL
I BE STARTING THE GROUP BY MYSELF?
No.
We will work with you.
Usually,
we will appoint our Regional Coordinator to contact you
and liaise with you. He will provide you with advice and
support, and he will work with you till the group takes
off. These guys have experience in assisting other
groups in the past.
Whenever
you start a new group, LYC always advice that you follow
a 'team approach'. That means, instead of getting the
group up yourself, it is important that you form a small
team of 3-6 'core organizers'. We will try to introduce
you to other people in your city so that you will have a
team of people helping each other out. This way, it is
more effective than doing it all by yourself and
certainly a lot more fun! For our Step-By-Step Start-Up
Guide and for more information, please write (including
your telephone number, email address and/or postal
address) to: silklink@longyangclub.org
We
also welcome new groups to join our Long Yang Global
Partnerships.
