What we do |
We have had a range of activities, including picnics
and barbeques, cruises and tramps.
We have celebrated Western and Eastern cultures - Thai
Songkran, Oktoberfest, the Mooncake Festival and Guy Fawkes
(with fireworks!).
We have also had movie evenings, either in movie theatres
or in private homes. We try to include movies on a range
of themes made in different countries - and particularly
movies that most members would not normally have the opportunity
to see elsewhere. |
When we meet |
The club meets once or twice a month. Usually on Saturdays,
but we try to have some meetings on Fridays and Sundays
too, so that people who work on Saturdays can take part.
|
Where we meet |
Most meetings are held in members’ homes.
Sometimes we meet in the city, where it is easier for
people to get to.
Sometimes there are trips to other places too.
|
What to bring |
At house meetings we usually ask members to bring something
for the meal, if they can. We also suggest people bring
anything they would like to drink, although we do provide
wine and soft drink. We also encourage people to bring
a coin (or coins!) to the raffle, to help meet our costs.
|
Getting There |
If you are not sure how to get to activities, please
phone Nigel (2797177), and he’ll try to arrange
transport.
Or you can visit www.wises.co.nz
for maps of the city and www.rideline.co.nz
for public transport. For activities in the city, we recommend
the link bus, which runs every ten or fifteen minutes,
and the free inner-city bus service. |
Christmas |
We make a special effort at Christmas, because some
of our members are not able to be with families, and we
want members to feel part of our Long Yang family. There
are usually a couple of events in December, including
a Christmas dinner or barbecue. |
Plans for the future |
We’re thinking about different activities we can
enjoy - such as a dance party, regular dropins or a discussion
group for young Asians - and we’re always interested
in hearing of ideas for new activities we can arrange. |
