NEWSLETTER 29 April 2024 |
During the last month - A great time was had by all at
Bruce’s place on 27th March. We had an excellent
meal, enjoyed good conversation, then finished the evening
with fireworks.
The Easter Bunny visited Nigel’s place on 11th April,
and a good time was had by all.
There are more exciting activities planned for May and
June.

Ocean View Restaurant 10.45 am
We meet at the Ocean View restaurant, 201 Victoria St.
This is a very popular restaurant with the Chinese community.
It serves a buffet-style meal at a low price ($10.90).
The restaurant opens at 11.00 am, but there will probably
be queues, so we will meet outside the restaurant at 10.45
am.
If you are in the city, you can take the Link Bus,
which runs along Victoria Street very 15 minutes on
Sundays. (Phone Rideline 3666400 or visit their website
for timetables.)
If you want to contact the restaurant, the phone number
is 3793760.

Miranda Hot Spring
We travel south to the Miranda Hot Springs in the Firth
of Thames.
Miranda is quite a long way from Auckland, and we will
have to go by car. We will meet at 10.30 am, at the
carpark at the corner of Upper Symonds St and Mt Eden
Rd, near Galbraiths, and arrange for carpooling.
If it is difficult for you to get to the carpark, or
if you want to go straight to Miranda, please phone
Nigel (ph. 2797177), so he can try to arrange transport
for everyone who needs it.
Drivers will be given maps, in case they are not sure
how to get there. If you want to phone the Hot Springs,
the number is 07/8673055.
There are some covered areas, so this will go ahead
if it rains.
What to bring:
- Your swimming shorts
- $10 for the entry to the pool, and money for food
and drink.
- It is quite a scenic drive, so if you are new to
Auckland, you may want to bring your camera.
- Passengers are asked to give something to drivers
(perhaps $3 or $4) to pay for the cost of petrol.
If you speak very nicely to your driver he might
take you to the Hunua Falls and Cossey’s Dam on
the way back. (It’s quite a bit further, though,
so perhaps you could offer him another dollar for petrol).

Queen's Birthday
As it is Queen’s Birthday weekend , so most people
won’t be working, we are having not one but two
events!
And quite appropriately, on the Monday we go to a movie
about Queens. (Sorry, folks, that’s a rather bad
Kiwi joke!)
There are three films about gay and lesbian life, set
in the Caribbean, the US and India, showing at the Academy
Theatre at 12.30 pm. We’ll tell you more about them
later. In the meantime, you can find details at www.outtakes.org.nz.
