Trip to the film festival
There are three films about gay and lesbian life,
set in the Caribbean, the US and India, showing at
the Academy Theatre at 12.30 pm.
The Pink Mirror
A clash of East and West.
The Pink Mirror is an entertaining and colourful look
into the Indian closet in over the top Bollywood style.
Two clever Indian drag queens compete with a westernised
gay teenager in a battle to win a handsome hunk. Who
will win?The film is in Hindi with English subtitles.

Paradise Lost
24 mins
A dreamy journey through gay and lesbian life
in Trinidad and Tobago.
|
For Straights Only 22 mins
In many Asian cultures, marriages are arranged by parents.
It is not OK to be gay! What is it like to come out?
One Indian man says, “I had to say ‘I’m
Gay’ in English… I couldn’t find any
phrase in my own language that meant the same.”
NOTE: Films in the festival are often
very popular. The theatre may be full. It would be a
good idea to phone the Academy Cinema
(09) 373
2761 and make a booking, so you can be sure
to get a seat. They will hold tickets until 20 minutes
before the film starts. (If you don’t pick up
the ticket before then, they will sell it to someone
else.) Tickets cost $13.
We are going to meet in the coffee bar in the theatre
at 12 noon. If you haven’t been able to book a
ticket, you may be able to buy one then. (And if you
haven’t had time to eat, you can get something
to eat then too!)
The Academy Theatre is underground, in the same building
as the main City Library, between AUT and the Queen
St.
